Remember, these situations are just crazy theories or ways invented in books. There is no chance that these events will wipe out our planet, even though if they do happen. In fact, many of these have happened before, causing no problems except for panic that occurs when a person goes out in the streets yelling: "The end is nigh!" You probably will have enough sense to ignore them. So these are some ways that the universe definitely would not destroy our planet. Some are interesting, and others are plain weird...

The gravity from the alignment of the planet will wipe us out!

Picture
This theory has been made into many films and books. In fact, the alignment of the planets has occurred before, on the 5th of March 2000. Many panicked as they thought the added gravity of the planets would rip apart our planet by earthquakes and tsunamis. In fact, the gravitational effect of the alignment of planets only influenced the tides a little bit. This affect was weaker than the affect of the Sun and Moon on us. Many soothsayers, fortune tellers and psychics told of how the planet would be ripped apart by the gravitational pull of the planets. Strangely, John Gribbin in the late 1970's wrote a book called The Jupiter Effect which predicted the end of the world would occur in 1983 due a once in a 1 000 years planetary alignment. Of course, the world obviously did not end in 1983!

A big Solar Flare will kill us!

Picture
Science fiction. Nothing more. Solar flares are spurts of energy that’s caused by the Sun. The energy in a solar flare is more than all the energy produces by all of mankind. Solar flares are noway big enough to wipe out our planet.
Superflares, which are big solar flares, can do extensive damage to our technological infrastructure (destroy the electronics in satellites, burn out transformers via surges in the power grid, etc.). Of course, this will not cause us to be extinct. Of course, this might cripple us a little bit, but hey, if our ancestors could do without electricity, why can’t we?

The alignment of the Winter solstice Sun with the Galaxy's black hole will kill us!

Picture
This theory is supposedly how our planet will end on 2012, and is also well publicized by the 2009-blockbuster film, ‘2012’. I’ve got good news: that is not real.
The ‘galactic alignment’ is when the Sun, on the day of the winter solstice (that’s when the Sun is the most to the south as it possibly can be), rises in the spot in the sky that we can see where the black hole in the centre of our galaxy is. This actually doesn’t do anything apart for causing panic and giving filmmakers an opportunity to make some cash.

Likelihood/Conclusion

These are just some of the fascinating ways that we CAN’T be wiped out. All of these have appeared in books and movies, and you have probably watched or read them. So obviously the likelihood of these theories are:
